President Buhari gives Magu a second chance at EFCC chairmanship
President Muhammadu Buhari has re-submitted the name of Ibrahim Magu, the acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to the Nigerian Senate.
President Buhari has given Magu a second at EFCC top job by re-sending his name to Senate.
Sahara Reporters writes on Friday, January 20 that the president has resent a letter to the upper house of legislature re-nominating Magu as the substantive chairman of the anti-corruption agency.
Recall that the Senate had rejected Magu because of an unfavourable security report from the Department of State Service (DSS).
Among other things, the DSS report accused Magu of fraternising with some of the people his agency was investigating and also claimed that he was living in an apartment that he could not ordinarily have afforded on his civil servant salary.
However, there were similar reports that Magu was being allegedly persecuted by some powerful individuals in President Buhari’s cabinet who were under EFCC investigation or those close to them were.
The date the president sent the letter to the senate was however not given.
But as at the time of Sahara Reporters report on Friday, January 20, President Buhari
had gone on vacation for around 24 hours since Thursday, January 19 after getting the approval of the Senate to hand over to vice president Yemi Osinbajo as the stand-in ruler.
