Sultan of Sokoto (in the centre) during Eid el-Kabir prayers
The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar III, in his Eid el-Kabir message to the Muslims in Nigeria has addressed the issue of Fulani herdsmen in the country, NAN reports.
He said that so called Fulani herdsmen carrying guns, causing havoc, fighting with farmers are foreign terrorists but not Nigerians.
Sultan stated that these are foreigners coming into the country to cause a breach of the peace.
“They are therefore terrorists and should be treated as such by the Nigerian security agencies.
“The Nigerian herdsmen are very peace-loving and law abiding,” Sultan of Sokoto said.
While noting with concern that the herdsmen entered the country secretly with the help of some ‘‘bad eggs”, he dared the security operatives to be proactive.
Meanwhile, Abubakar, accepted that there were problems between the Fulani herdsmen and the farmers, which should only be settled through negotiations.
Sultan underlined the need for all Nigerians to live peacefully with each other, regardless of any religious or ethnic differences.
He added that Nigeria would continue to lag behind if there is no peace and unity.
“Our diversity should be our strength and God has not made a mistake by creating us with diverse differences,” he said.
Sultan of Sokoto also advised Nigerians to learn to be more productive, rather than solely waiting for the administration to provide all their needs.
The monarch also praised the three tiers of administration for their current efforts to provide relief to Nigerians.
He pledged to continue to offer prayers, and provide counsel to the Federal and state governments.
Muslims all over the world celebrate Eid-el-kabir today, September 12. In his celebrations Sultan of Sokoto was joined by ALiko Dangote, the state governor, Aminu Tambuwal and former President Shehu Shagari.
At the same time, President Muhammadu Buhari, observed the Eid Kabir prayer in his hometown of Daura in Katsina state.
