Middlesbrough Owner Steve Gibson Rejects £50million Takeover Bid From Chinese Consortium
Middlesbrough owner Steve Gibson has rejected a takeover attempt by a Chinese-American billionaire consortium, according to the
Daily Mail.
The consortium, headed up by Chinese businessman Chien Lee who owns French club Nice, offered Gibson a reported £50m but the offer was turned down.
Steve Gibson has no intention of selling the club according to the reports, he helped save from liquidation in 1986 and has owned Middlesbrough since 1993 and will resist any approach from foreign investors.
He did, however, sanction a due diligence check on Lee and his associates — and it confirmed significant financial muscle.
