Three Nigerian Lawmakers Sue United States Government For $1Bn
The three members of the House of Representatives who were accused last year of sexually harassing some hotel waitresses and soliciting for sex in the United States of America have decided to drag the U.S government to court.
The lawmakers, House Deputy Chairman, Committee on Petroleum Resources ( Upstream ); Hon. Terse Mark-Gbillah; Hon. Samuel Ikon, Akwa Ibom State; and Hon. Mohammed Garba-Gololo from Bauchi State were cleared of the sexual misconduct allegations brought up against them by the United States Embassy in Nigeria, and have now filed a $1billion suit against the US government.
As the three lawmakers have been barred from entering the U.S for now, they would have to communicate with their lawyers in the U.S via electronic means.
Hon. Mark-Gbillah, who spoke on behalf of the accused lawmakers, told reporters that the lawyers had been identified and that efforts were on to finalise consultations on the suit. He also added that the lawmakers’ US visas revoked in the wake of the allegations had yet to be restored.
Mark-Gbillah said , “We have identified lawyers willing to take the case and are currently planning for the required funds to initiate the action [for damages.]”
“We will communicate with our lawyers via other media for now , but we can be granted entry by the court if we are required to appear in person . We won’t be willing to disclose the costs at this time.”
